The Council of Medical Colleges in New Zealand has been established to allow Medical Colleges to discuss issues of common interest and to enable them to share knowledge, objectives and policies. Such discussions enable the Council of Medical Colleges in New Zealand to then inform and advise Ministers, Government agencies and other relevant bodies on relevant health issues.

The mission statement is:

The Council of Medical Colleges in New Zealand seeks to ensure, through the voluntary, co-operative and coordinated action of its Member Medical Colleges, that individual medical specialties have a broad base of intercollegiate knowledge. This enables them, both collectively and individually as Medical Colleges, to provide for the community the highest quality of medical care delivered in accordance with accepted clinical principles and to improve, protect, and promote the public health.
